03 Perspective

I begin from due process, always.

1 Presumption of innocence - the burden rests with the prosecution, and it does not shift.

I am fascinated by the way law shapes society, and by how rigorous argument, evidence and reasoning can influence outcomes. At the heart of that interest is a belief in due process, and in the fundamental principle that a person must be presumed innocent until guilt is established.

04 Fields of interest

Criminal,civil,contract.

My interest in criminal law stems from its intersection of justice, human behaviour and rigorous legal reasoning. I am drawn to the intellectual challenge of examining evidence, to understanding the psychology underlying criminal conduct, and to questions of accountability.

That is where the interest began, not where it ends. I intend to work across all three.

01  Criminal

The state's case, proved beyond reasonable doubt.

02  Civil

Private disputes, decided on the balance of probabilities.

03  Contract

What was agreed, and what the words will bear when tested.

i - Justice

Justice

A standard that has to hold up in the particular case.

ii - Evidence

Evidence

What can be proved, by what means, and to what standard.

iii - Reasoning

Reasoning

Testing an argument for where it breaks, then rebuilding it.

iv - Accountability

Accountability

How responsibility is attributed, and what follows from it.

v - Writing

Writing

Setting an argument down in words that hold up when read closely. The part of all this I am strongest at.

05 Academic record

From business studies
to law.

Accounting and business taught me to read a set of facts carefully before arguing about them. Law asks the same discipline of a different subject.

The subject changed. The method did not.

06 Where this is going

Courtroom advocacy.

I ultimately aspire to practise across criminal, civil and contract law, and to develop into a formidable courtroom advocate - combining rigorous preparation, persuasive argument and a disciplined understanding of evidence.

07 Beyond the reading list

Four habits, kept
deliberately.

Reading and music

My reading tends to gravitate toward psychology, crime and science fiction - subjects that explore human behaviour, uncertainty and the limits of what we understand. Music is the other constant. Radiohead has a particular place in that world, especially Let Down, a song I return to often.

Training

I approach fitness through consistency rather than intensity. The gym is less about appearance alone and more about structure, resilience and control over the habits that shape everyday life. The science behind nutrition and performance interests me as much as the training does.

Cars and travel

A longstanding fascination with cars - specifications as much as design - and an equally strong curiosity about the world beyond home. Travelling, for me, is as much about understanding different places and cultures as it is about seeing them.

08 Written work

Behindthe Eyes.

Four books on how people argue, read each other, persuade and manipulate. Each one stands on its own.

Book 01

Behind the Eyes: Original

Mastering Yourself Before You Master the Conversation

BDT 1,499 BDT 999

You had the better point. You'd even rehearsed it. So why did the conversation fall apart three minutes in?

More

Most arguments aren't lost on the facts. They're lost the moment emotion takes the wheel. Your voice speeds up, your points come out in the wrong order, and suddenly you're saying "you always" about something that happened once.

Original explains what actually happens in your body and brain when that happens, and what the research says brings you back. It covers why venting makes anger worse, why bottling it up backfires, how to put your thoughts into words someone can actually follow, and how to handle the conversations you've been putting off for months.

There are no mind tricks and no motivational fluff, just tested ideas and real-life scenarios to practise on.

Behind the Eyes: Inside

What's Really Going On Inside Their Head

BDT 1,499 BDT 999

Even close friends correctly guess what the other is thinking only around a third of the time. Most people spot a lie barely better than a coin toss.

More

And that famous rule about liars avoiding eye contact? It isn't true.

Inside is about how people really work, and how badly we usually read them. It covers why being close to someone can make you worse at understanding them, the mental shortcuts that bend how you see the people you love, how early attachment shapes the way adults behave in relationships, and what someone usually wants underneath what they actually say.

Along the way it takes apart the popular body language myths and replaces them with what the evidence supports. You'll come away seeing people more accurately, starting with the ones closest to you.

Book 03

Behind the Eyes: Influence

Using Their Own Mind to Win, Without Losing Them

BDT 1,499 BDT 999

You can win the argument and lose the person. Most of us do it all the time.

More

Influence is about a better kind of winning. It explains the four habits that wreck disagreements before they begin, why pushing harder makes people dig in, and the one question that gets people to rethink their own position. It also shows how negotiators find outcomes where nobody has to lose.

It draws on research into persuasion, negotiation and close relationships, and it's honest about which famous techniques hold up and which quietly fell apart when scientists tested them again.

This is a book about changing minds by working with the way people think, not against it, so the people you win with are still on your side afterwards.

Book 04

Behind the Eyes: Shadows

Manipulation, and How to See Through It

BDT 1,499 BDT 999

Manipulation rarely looks like a villain. It usually looks like someone you love being upset with you.

More

Shadows names the tactics one by one: gaslighting, love bombing, guilt tripping, the silent treatment, and the move where you raise a problem and somehow end up apologising. It explains why each one works on the mind, and why intelligent, capable people are no safer from them than anyone else.

It also covers coercive control, how the law has begun to treat it as a crime, why leaving is so much harder than it looks from outside, and practical defences you can start using today. Where to get help is included.

Learning how a trick works is the surest way to make it stop working on you.

09 How I work

Seven words that describe how I work.

  • Analytical
  • Curious
  • Research-driven
  • Competitive
  • Calm
  • Detail-oriented
  • Persistent
  1. I enjoy challenging assumptions, including my own.
  2. I would rather construct an argument than assert a conclusion.
  3. I examine an issue from more than one perspective before settling.

Curious, detail-oriented, persistent - and calm when the pressure arrives.
